Shorts Brewing Company Announces Major Expansion to Traverse City Landmark

Shorts Brewing, Michigan's largest independent craft brewery, has announced plans to open its third location in Traverse City by April 2027. The brewery will occupy a nearly 16,000-square-foot building at Logan's Landing East, where it will serve as an anchor tenant in a mixed-use development.

The new location will sit at 2036 W. South Airport Road, just south of downtown Traverse City, near the 4-mile Boardman Lake Loop Trail that outlines Boardman Lake. The building, formerly known as Logan's Landing East, is located at the point where Boardman Lake splits into the Boardman River.

"It seems we've got a soft spot for rickety buildings with lots of potential…twenty five years ago I peered into the windows of an old hardware store in Bellaire and could envision the Pub," Joe Short said in the company's April 7 release. "A few months ago, I did it again at Logan's and could imagine how the space would look and feel as a Short's Brewing Company space on the water."

The redevelopment project is being undertaken through a newly formed partnership called South Boardman Lake District LLC. The partnership includes:

• Joe Short, founder of Shorts Brewing
• Scott Newman-Bale, CEO and partner of Shorts Brewing
• Tim Pulliam and Steve Morse, co-founders of Keen Energy Solutions

The building's former owner, Vincent Amroian of Vince's Fine Jewelers, plans to remain in the area according to the announcement.

The new location will feature a brewery, taproom, and event space similar to Shorts' existing Bellaire Beer Garden. Beer lovers can expect:

The project represents a $3 million investment and will bring more visitors to the downtown Traverse City area. Shorts Brewing currently operates two locations in northwest Michigan: The Pull Barn at 211 Industrial Park Drive in Elk Rapids, and the original location called The Pub in Bellaire at 121 N. Bridge Street.

Joe Short opened the Short's Brewing Pub in 2004 in Bellaire. The company opened a production facility in neighboring Elk Rapids and began bottling products in 2009. A second year-round tap room was added to the Elk Rapids location in 2021.
