Holland's deBoer Family Expands With New Restaurant at Former Jackie's Place

HOLLAND, Mich. — The deBoer family, a Holland institution in the food scene since 1956, is expanding its dining portfolio with a new breakfast and lunch restaurant called Shore by deBoer.

Located in the former Jackie's Place at 541 W. 17th St., Shore by deBoer will join deBoer Bakkerij North and South as the family's third eatery in Holland. The newly remodeled space will seat 85 people and offer a fresh yet familiar dining experience rooted in Dutch culinary traditions.

Four Generations of Hospitality

The deBoer family has been part of the local food scene since 1956, when they first opened their bakery in Holland. According to the Holland Sentinel, the family has passed down recipes and traditions through four generations, with even fifth-generation members already learning the craft.

Samuel, a classically trained master baker, brings creative direction to the new restaurant, while Mitchiel, a graduate of the Florida Culinary Institute, serves as head chef. Jacob helps lead operations, and family member Caryss oversees front-of-house operations.

"We were intentional with every part of this new restaurant, from the design to the carefully created menu," Mitchiel deBoer told The Sentinel. "We are confident that it will feel fresh and vibrant, yet still offer the same level of service and hospitality that this community has grown to know us for."

Breakfast and Lunch Hours

Shore by deBoer will operate from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, serving breakfast and lunch to the Holland community. The menu has been finalized and management secured, with back-of-house operations overseen by chef Ryan Boersma.

The restaurant acquired the building that was once Jackie's Place in 2024. Jackie's Place had operated for nearly four decades before announcing its closure in August 2024. The deBoers have since renovated the space to reflect their new concept while maintaining the family's commitment to quality and service.

What to Expect

While the full menu has not been revealed, the deBoer family describes Shore by deBoer as offering something "fresh and vibrant" that still maintains the same level of service and hospitality that Holland has come to expect from the family.

The restaurant will also feature additional patio space for outdoor dining, complementing the 85 indoor seats. Customers can look forward to the same house-made baked goods that are signature to the deBoer brand, along with new breakfast and lunch offerings.

"We are currently waiting on our final inspections and will announce an opening date once they are all completed," Mitchiel deBoer said.
