Watch: High-Speed Pursuit Turns Watery in Kentwood

Kent County deputies arrested a 39-year-old man after a high-speed chase that ended with his vehicle crashing into a Kentwood pond.

Dashcam footage shows the dramatic moment the suspect drove into the water near Celebration Cinema on Eastport Drive. The Kent County Sheriff's Office released the video on Monday.

Wanted for Violent Incidents

The suspect was wanted in connection with a felonious assault that occurred the night before the chase. Deputies tried to pull him over on April 7 but the driver refused to stop.

Authorities considered the suspect dangerous and uncooperative. He drove under an overpass when deputies spotted him in a vehicle.

Spike strips were deployed but the chase continued. The driver swerved off the roadway and plunged into the pond.

Weapons and Drugs Found

Investigators searched the vehicle after the arrest. They found multiple firearms inside the car. Some of the weapons were loaded.

Methamphetamine was also found in the vehicle. The suspect was taken to the Kent County Jail following the arrest.

Multiple Charges Pending

The man faces numerous criminal charges after the incident. He is charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Carrying a concealed weapon is also among the charges. Being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm is another count.

The suspect faces third-degree fleeing and eluding charges. Assault with intent to do great bodily harm is pending.

Domestic violence charges are also filed against him. Destruction of personal property under $200 is included in the charges.

Drone footage showed the vehicle partially submerged in the pond. The suspect climbed out of the water with his hands raised.
