## A Man Walking Against a Red Light Was Hit by a Vehicle in Holland Early Thursday

A pedestrian died Thursday morning after being struck by a northbound vehicle at the US-31 and 24th Street intersection in Holland.

Holland Department of Public Safety officers and firefighters responded to the scene around 1:10 a.m. to a traffic incident involving a pedestrian near the divided highway.

The victim was a 62-year-old man from Holland. Witnesses placed him on the sidewalk of 24th Street on the east side of the intersection when traffic on US-31 was running green.

The pedestrian began walking across the highway against a red light. The northbound vehicle entered the intersection with a green light and struck the pedestrian.

First responders found the pedestrian unresponsive with serious injuries. He was transported to Holland Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old man from Saugatuck, was not hurt in the crash.

Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Police have not released the names of either party involved in the incident.

## Three Traffic Fatalities Reported in Less Than 24 Hours

This incident marks the third traffic-related fatality reported in the Holland area within less than 24 hours.

On Wednesday morning, two men from Grand Rapids lost their lives in separate single-vehicle crashes about three and a half hours apart.

One crash occurred near Port Sheldon Street and 152nd Avenue. The other happened on I-196 near the 96th Avenue overpass.

In both Wednesday incidents, drivers were apparently unbuckled as they were thrown from their vehicles. The 21-year-old and 32-year-old men died from their injuries.

## Holland Public Safety Launches Investigation

The Holland Department of Public Safety is investigating the Thursday morning crash at US-31 and 24th Street.

Officers received a tip about the crash around 1:10 A.M. Thursday morning. First responders found the 62-year-old Holland man unresponsive with serious injuries.

Investigators believe the car involved was traveling northbound on US-31 at the 24th Street intersection.

Witnesses reported that traffic for US-31 had a green light when the victim started walking across 24th Street on the east side of the intersection.

The car entered the intersection with a green light and hit the pedestrian.

The victim was transported to Holland Hospital and later died from his injuries.

The victim's name is being withheld at this time. The 28-year-old driver was not hurt in the crash.

The Holland Department of Public Safety believes alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
