A 58-year-old man is in stable condition after being shot by a Michigan State Police trooper during a police response to a report of a suicidal individual at a residence in Muskegon Township on Monday evening.

The Michigan State Police Fifth District Investigative Response Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred around 7 p.m. on April 7, 2026, at a home on South Sheridan Avenue in Muskegon Township.

The trooper who fired the shots is on administrative leave, as is department policy, pending the outcome of the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Michigan Department of Attorney General for review.
