A 39-year-old Kent County man is behind bars after leading deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with his vehicle crashing into a pond in Kentwood.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office released dashcam footage showing the dramatic moment the man drove straight into a small pond near the Celebration Cinema on Eastport Drive. The incident happened on April 7 and the man surrendered moments after the crash.

Deputies tried to pull the man over on April 7 as he was suspected to be involved in a felonious assault that happened the previous night. The man instead drove away and led deputies on a chase from Kalamazoo Avenue SE near M-6 down Eastport Drive.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office found several firearms inside the vehicle. Some of the guns were loaded. Deputies also found methamphetamine in the vehicle.

The man was taken to the Kent County Jail on the following charges. The charges include possession of methamphetamine and carrying a concealed weapon. He was also charged with prohibited person possessing a firearm. The man faces third degree flee and elude charges.

He faces assault with intent to do great bodily harm charges. The man is also charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. He faces domestic violence charges as well. The man faces destruction of personal property charges for less than $200 damage.
