## Two Separate Incidents Leave Three Teenagers in Custody in Battle Creek

Three teenagers were taken into custody in Battle Creek after two separate incidents over the weekend: a juvenile boy who crashed a vehicle into a home's front porch and a group of three teens who allegedly tried to steal a vehicle and fired shots at a resident.

According to the Battle Creek Police Department, the incidents occurred in different parts of the city on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

## Vehicle Crash on Saturday Afternoon

Shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, police arrived at a home in the 100 block of Post Avenue to find a vehicle resting on the front porch.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling at high speed along Post Avenue when it left the road and crashed into the porch structure. The crash dislodged a support pillar on the porch, however the home itself was not damaged.

The homeowner was inside at the time of the crash but was not injured. Police said the driver was a juvenile boy who was arrested and is being held at the Calhoun County Juvenile Detention Facility.

The juvenile faces charges of reckless driving and driving while unlicensed. A passenger in the vehicle was evaluated at the scene for a minor head injury and released.

## Shooting Attempt on Sunday Morning

Three teenagers were arrested after they allegedly tried to steal a vehicle and fired shots at a resident early Sunday morning, according to the Battle Creek Police Department.

Officers were called to Arbor Pointe Drive near Jackson Street West around 1:45 a.m. after it was reported that multiple people were trying to steal a vehicle. A resident who confronted the suspects told officers they were shot at four times, but were not hit.

While investigating the scene, detectives found evidence that indicated the suspects entered or tried to enter multiple vehicles in the area. Four shell casings were also found at the scene, according to police.

Local authorities identified the suspects as a 17-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys. All three were taken to the Calhoun County Juvenile Home after police found them near 20th Street and Michigan Avenue following a K-9 track.

Police said charges for larceny from a vehicle and aggravated felonious assault are being submitted to the prosecutor's office.
