Senior Midfielder Boose Leads Lakers Offense, Junior Defender McElroy Dominates on Defense

ALLANDALE, MICH. – Grand Valley State women's lacrosse swept the GLIAC weekly awards for the seventh week of play, with senior midfielder Ella Boose earning Offensive Player of the Week and junior defender Quinn McElroy receiving Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Brighton, Michigan native scored a career-high six goals in the 9-4 victory over Northern Michigan on Friday, surpassing 100 career points in the process. On Sunday, Boose added two goals, two assists, five draw controls, and three ground balls in a 7-4 win against Concordia-St. Paul.

"This season, she leads the Lakers in points with 29, goals with 20, and draw controls with 27," according to the GLIAC.

Boose earned the Offensive Player of the Week recognition for the first time in her career after notching 10 points across the two Laker conference wins. She added eight draw controls and four groundballs over the weekend.

For the first time in her tenure as a Laker, McElroy was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. The Lake Orion, Michigan native was a key force on the Laker defensive line that held both Northern Michigan and Concordia-St. Paul to four goals apiece.

McElroy totaled five groundballs and five caused turnovers over the two GVSU victories. She had two groundballs and caused two turnovers in the 9-4 victory over Northern Michigan, where she helped hold the nation's leading scorer to just one point on eight shot attempts.

On Sunday, McElroy caused three turnovers and picked up three groundballs in the Lakers' 7-4 win against Concordia-St. Paul. She currently leads GVSU with 22 groundballs and 19 caused turnovers.

The Lakers have a 2-7 overall record and 1-0 in GLIAC play after the two conference victories. The team continues to build momentum as they navigate the GLIAC season.

Boose and McElroy are the first GVSU players to sweep both weekly awards in the same week, highlighting the team's balanced play on both ends of the field.

Season Context

The GVSU women's lacrosse program opened GLIAC play at home against Northern Michigan on Friday evening, winning 9-4 behind Boose's six-goal performance. The team then traveled to Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, where they won 7-4.

Both victories came with strong defensive efforts, holding opponents to single-digit scoring. The Lakers will look to build on this momentum as the GLIAC season continues.
