Frederik Meijer Gardens launches landmark Chihuly exhibit

GRAND RAPIDS — International glass artist Dale Chihuly returns to Grand Rapids for his most extensive exhibition yet, with the show opening this Saturday and running through November 1.

The exhibition marks Chihuly's return to the Grand Rapids Township campus for the first time since 2010 and his third major collaboration with Meijer Gardens, according to FOX 17.

Visitors will see handblown glass installations at 12 outdoor sites across the 158-acre campus — from gardens to waterways. A special indoor exhibit called Radiant Forms offers a more intimate view of his work.

Charles Burke, president and CEO of Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, called the exhibition a landmark moment for the region.

"We are delighted to welcome you, our friends, to this historic moment, catalytic moment, not just for the gardens, but for all of West Michigan," Burke said.

"We're just very fortunate and blessed as a community to welcome Dale back in all of his artwork, both indoors and outdoors," Burke said.

Chihuly's work is featured in over 200 museum collections and other installations worldwide, with significant hubs in Seattle and Las Vegas.

The exhibition will include large-scale works from throughout his career, including new installations developed in response to the natural and architectural features of the Meijer Gardens campus. Returning more than a decade after his first blockbuster presentation here, Chihuly's 2026 exhibition complements his three installations in the permanent collection.

This is one of only two Chihuly exhibitions in the world in 2026. The exhibition will include large-scale works from throughout his career, including new installations developed in response to the natural and architectural features of the Meijer Gardens campus.

Tickets for the indoor exhibition, CHIHULY: Radiant Forms, are sold separately. Members enjoy 10 percent off admission for the indoor exhibition.

The exhibition will run from May 2 through November 1 at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.
