Father Figure Facing Charges After Toddler Fatality at Mobile Home Park

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — A 33-year-old Cedar Springs man who was the fiancé of a 3-year-old girl's mother is facing criminal charges after being arrested in connection with a fatal crash that killed the toddler at a local mobile home park.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office charged the man with reckless driving causing death. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the incident.

What Happened

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday, April 3, the Kent County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting that a 3-year-old child had been struck by a pickup truck at Northland Estates, a mobile home park in Cedar Springs. The park is located off Northland Drive near 17 Mile Road.

Emergency crews responded quickly and began life-saving efforts at the scene. Despite their efforts, the child died from severe injuries sustained in the crash.

Arrest and Charges

The man was arrested and is currently being held at the Kent County Correctional Facility. Authorities initially reported that the man was the child's father, but later learned he is the fiancé of the child's mother.

The charge of reckless driving causing death stems from deputies' observations that the driver was operating the pickup truck recklessly when he struck the child.

Investigation Continues

The Kent County Sheriff's Office stated they believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The man is expected to be arraigned early next week.
