Jersey Junction, the iconic ice cream shop in East Grand Rapids Gaslight Village, is officially open for the 2026 season following repairs from winter weather damage.

The shop, which originally opened in 1963, had planned to open in March but pushed the opening back around a month after cold weather damaged parts of the building.

Opening Hours

Jersey Junction is now open with the following hours:

• Monday through Thursday: 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
• Friday through Saturday: 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
• Sunday: 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The shop announced on its Facebook page in February that the season opening would be delayed after the cold weather caused damage to the building. The post did not specify what damage occurred, but noted the team was taking extra time for renovations.

A 63-Year Tradition

Founded in 1963 by Doris Chris VanAllsburg, the shop carries on a 63-year tradition in the Gaslight Village neighborhood. The name Jersey was inspired by VanAllsburg father who believed Jersey cows produced the finest milk and best ice cream.

The shop is known for its vintage atmosphere, which includes a model train circling the ceiling. Jersey Junction also has a connection to The Polar Express, as VanAllsburg was the mother of Chris VanAllsburg who illustrated and wrote the beloved childrens book.

The shop is located in East Grand Rapids and has been a Gaslight Village staple for generations.
