Specialty Coffee Chain Brings Community-Focused Cafes to Westside and Downtown

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids coffee lovers are getting two new spots to grab a cup, as Wildroast Coffee Co. expands its footprint with new locations on the Westside and in downtown Grand Rapids.

The specialty coffee chain, which got its start in Grandville in 2019, is opening its first two locations in Grand Rapids proper. The Westside cafe at 637 Stocking Ave. NW is expected to open first, with a grand opening scheduled for April 24, according to Crain's Grand Rapids.

New Locations Take Over Former Spaces

The Stocking Avenue location is taking over the space that previously housed Morning Ritual Coffee. That longtime Grand Rapids favorite didn't close — it simply relocated to 150 Ottawa Ave. NW in downtown Grand Rapids, where it continues to serve its loyal customer base.

The second Wildroast location is planned for downtown Grand Rapids at 61 Monroe Center Ave. NW. That space was home to Elegance Wigs, a business that operated for more than 60 years before closing in August, according to WGRD.

Community-Focused Brand

Wildroast Coffee Co. built its reputation in Grandville through community engagement and partnerships with local farmers and businesses. The downtown Grandville location opened in 2019 after a renovation of a 100-year-old building on Chicago Drive.

In 2022, Wildroast began roasting their own beans in-house. The menu features specialty lattes with house-made syrups, cold brew, matcha, tea, and lemonade. Food options include sandwiches, wraps, croissants, cookies, muffins, and other baked treats.

Expansion Timing

The Westside location is expected to open first with a planned grand opening on April 24. The downtown Monroe Center Avenue cafe should be ready by the end of the year, according to local business reports.

The two new locations will add to the growing number of specialty coffee shops in the area, joining an already competitive but thriving coffee scene that includes chains like Starbucks, Dunkin, and local favorites like Morning Ritual, Black Sheep Coffee, and Cafe Rio.
