Two people died in separate violent incidents in Grand Rapids within the span of one hour early Sunday morning, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

An 18-year-old man was stabbed and killed shortly before midnight. About an hour later, an adult man was shot and killed on the city's south side.

Stabbing on the Southwest Side

Police responded to a stabbing call around 12:20 a.m. Sunday in the area of Goodrich Avenue Southwest and Cesar E. Chavez Street Southwest, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, was found with serious injuries and taken to a local hospital. He died there a short time later, authorities confirmed.

"The Grand Rapids Police Department has not released information about a suspect in the case," FOX 17 reported, citing a department release.

The identity of the 18-year-old has not been made public.

Shooting on the South Side

Around 1:40 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1900 block of South Division Avenue near Rose Street Southwest, north of Burton Street, according to WOODTV.

The victim, an adult man, was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. He died shortly afterward, police said.

On Sunday afternoon, GRPD Interim Chief Joe Trigg said a person of interest had been interviewed, according to WOODTV. No arrests have been made in connection with either incident.

The Grand Rapids Police Department's Major Case Team is investigating both killings, according to WZZM13.
