Emergency Vehicle Hit in Early Morning Crash

MICHIGAN STATE POLICE say a Life EMS ambulance was struck by a vehicle in a multi-car pileup on US-131 south of Burton Street in Grand Rapids Saturday morning, leaving multiple people injured.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, just south of Burton Street on southbound US-131. Michigan State Police troopers responded to the scene and began their investigation.

According to preliminary findings, a black BMW was traveling too fast for the icy road conditions and lost control, initiating a chain reaction crash. Several other vehicles also lost control and collided with one another.

A Life EMS ambulance that had stopped at the scene with its emergency lights activated was also struck during the pileup.

Injuries Reported, Road Reopened After 90 Minutes

Michigan State Police confirmed that multiple people were injured in the crash, though officials believe none of the injuries are life-threatening.

Emergency responders worked for approximately 90 minutes to clear the scene before authorities reopened the highway.

Safety Warning for Drivers

MSP troopers issued a safety reminder to drivers about the hazardous conditions on Michigan's roads. Even a small increase in speed can make a significant difference when driving on icy surfaces.
